Moving to Oslo? We offer weekly removals to Oslo from the UK! From full relocations to single items; dedicated or shared-load services. Let Matthew James take the stress out of your move…

A part/shared load service is a cost effective way to move your goods to and from your destination. The reason this service is so cost effective is that you share the vehicle with other consignments and therefore the vehicle costs are also shared. All consignments are individually prepared, numbered, labelled and inventoried to ensure all items are correctly delivered to you. The main advantage of a part load service is that you will receive the Matthew James service of excellence at the most cost effective price.

How it works

If you’ve ever sent a parcel abroad or bought something from overseas, you’ll know that customs clearance is a difficult-to-navigate minefield, and costs can quickly add up.
That’s why our professional in-house team of customs handlers is ready to help you with everything you need for a stress-free shipping experience. Our experts have in-depth knowledge of specific customs laws from each country, helping you dot the ‘i’s and cross the ‘t’s on your paperwork and ensuring your shipment arrives safely.
Plus, our Dartford HQ became a fully customs-bonded facility in early 2023, meaning we can safely store your belongings in our own warehouse and keep track of them throughout the entire shipping process. You’re in safe hands with Matthew James.

EUROPE
Oslo’s physical layout is enough reason to move there. The capital city of Norway is surrounded by water, islands and rolling hills covered in forest like something out of a fairytale (but don’t worry, the dragons left long ago). Fun fact, even though it is considered to be in the south of the country, Oslo is actually on the same latitude as Alaska and Moscow. And they are pretty far north!
Boasting some of the highest rates of pay in Norway, Oslo is a very attractive option for those looking to advance their careers. The city is proud of its incentives to retain staff which seem to work! Most workers feel satisfies and secure in their job. English is spoken throughout Norway to a highly proficient degree, but, of course, knowing your way around Norwegian will put you at an advantage. The top employers in the city are shipping, oil and gas, environmental affairs, IT, renewable energy, and life sciences. As Oslo is a small city, networking is very important. Registering at NAV (Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration) will help greatly when finding work as they are the national employment agency. The main business centres are located in Skøyen, Lysaker, and Fornebu.

We can arrange a bespoke insurance policy aligned with your Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum service, to ensure that your treasured possessions are covered in the unlikely event of an accident occurring. Please speak to your designated Move Manager who can guide you through this process and advise you accordingly.
As you would expect from a capital city in Scandinavia (the richest region in the world), Oslo’s transport links are excellent. Its buses, trams, and metro are all very reliable if not a little pricy, but in this instance, you surely get what you pay for. Expats can purchase a day, 10-trip, or monthly pass for the trikken (tram), T-bane (underground) and buses which works out cheaper than paying as you go. Most tram drivers do not sell tickets on-board, so make sure you have your ticket ready before riding.
Oslo is split by the Akerselva River, and is separated into 15 boroughs and municipalities. The west side of the city is where most of the expats and wealthy families live. Frogner (luxury apartments and entertainment for those with the money to enjoy it), Majorstuen (the city centre and most affluent area in the city) and Torshov (a quiet, leafy suburb) are popular neighbourhoods. The east is characterised by hip, colourful and multicultural neighbourhoods like Grønland (historical, cheap markets, textile stores), Nordstrand and Segene. For those with young families, daycare in important in Oslo, so there are many options to take advantage of. To help pay for this, the government gives residents a family allowance. There aren’t many international schools in Oslo, perhaps because the public curriculum is so highly rated and accessible for expats, but just for reference, the Oslo International School is set in the nearby town of Bekkestua.
Ekebergparken is a great park to get lost in and see the 31 sculptures that is was created to house. Take a trip to the Viking Museum and see its 9th-century burial ship, or go to the Norwegian National Gallery for the single reason to see Edvard Munch’s The Scream. Look over the panoramic views of the city from the Holmenkollen Ski Tower, and check out Norway’s Royal History at the Palace.
At Matthew James Removals we have the local knowledge and industry experience to manage all of your relocation needs, wherever in Oslo you choose to move. With 3 generations of experience, a customised vehicle fleet and frequent services, you can be sure you’re in the most capable hands in Oslo.
