It is easiest to get around on foot in the town, as many streets are closed off to cars or are simply not built to accommodate motor vehicles. And the town is small enough anyway that you can get everywhere you need to on two feet and in the sunshine and warm weather, this is probably your most enjoyable option anyway! There is a bus service though, and whilst they run less frequently than other major Spanish cities, they will still get you from A to B without too much trouble, and there are plenty of routs to and from the coastal resorts. Malaga is only a stones throw away, and there are taxis and shuttle busses that with get you to and from the airport. There is also a train station that will connect you to the rest of the region and other sun-traps on the coast.
It goes without saying that buying a property close to the marina is going to be more expensive than purchasing one further in land, but compared to major UK cities, property prices are not eye watering (and there are always rental options). A little distance out of the town centre you can find cheaper options that are still close enough to the life of the town that you won’t feel too removed from the actions. Saladavieja is a charming town on the cost to the west of Estepona and only a short distance from the town. The international School Estepona educating children aged 2 – 12 is located in Benavista just down the coast.
Hiding just around the corner from Estepona’s marina is the Playa del Cristo, which is the best place to set up on the sand for a day in the sun. The Play de las Flores is a charming square in the old town surrounded by cafes and beautiful flowers. Of course, there is the marina which is a must visit. This is an upscale slice of the coast that provides relaxing strolls and wonderful places to take a lunch break. Outside the city you can traverse the Sierra Bermuda range and get in touch with the natural landscape around the town. There are also 8 golf courses inside a 20 minute radius of Estepona!
